Did you see anything interesting on the NTS tour? One of the stops is usually Sedan Crater in the northeast. This is as close as you get to Area 51 on the tour. On the way, where the road to Sedan Crater forks off the main road, you may have seen signs pointing to "Gate 700". That is the gate between Area 51 and the NTS, located at Groom Pass. Heavy security there, as well. You may have noticed the power lines running east along the road to Sedan Crater. Well, guess where they go...

When I did the NTS tour I asked the guide very innocently about Area 51. He said "There is no Area 51 in the Nevada Test Site", which technically is correct. Area 51 is not part of the NTS.
BTW: I later asked about Area 19, and he declined to comment.
