We had a Texas Instruments thermal imager on a loan. It worked very well for seeing hot footprints and animals in the brush. I think it would be virtually impossible to hide from a device, as a person's heat signature is much harder to shield than visible reflected light. Resolution was limited, so seeing small things at a distance wasn't so great. It REALLY lit up on meteors though. The unit we had cost around $7k. About a year after we had the unit out there, a cammo dude Cherokee was spotted with the same distinctive housing on it's roof.
