What I understand is that the Medlin family has an agreement with the government to work the land. I am not sure if you visited or not but there really is no harm to the base with them being there. The base is completely surrounded by mountains or hills. They may serve to benefit the government as a buffer. A few years back the Air Force grabbed more land to make viewing the base more difficult. If they wanted the land .....those cows would not be there :) I am not sure of the validity but I read one of the reports on this site that they helped a stranded family & are very nice people - just not too caught up in what excites others. Maybe the locals & frequent visitors can let you know if I am wrong about any of this & fill you in.
