I must have missed the trip report on Wheeler Pass. I didn't see it until you just mentioned it. It's an interesting place. If you park at the saddle and walk a few hundred feet up the ridge to the south, Papoose Lake comes into view (I can't remember if you can see Groom). But it is a loooong way off. Nice view of the lakebed though. Not too disimilar from the Mt. Stirling view, but a bit further. But hey, you can DRIVE to Wheeler Pass. Sort of. The drive up from the Pahrump side (the southwest side)is fairly easy. Comparable to the drive through Badger Valley toward Tikaboo. But the route from Wheeler Pass down to Hwy 95 on the northeast side is a "challenging" 4WD route.
