I should add that the new tower has a clear line of sight at Area 51. That would indicate that it is more than a weather station. My guess is that it is a more secure microwave comm link between he Guard Shack and the base. They may feel that the two EDACS trunking sites on Bald Mtn. and Papoose Mtn. are not secure enough. Or the link is needed for additional digital services etc.
