Hmm, chemicals, that would explain why they needed so many smaller tanks, instead of a few big ones. In that case, what happened to the chemicals? Did they get rid of them? Anyway, thanks for your input.
BTW: I have seen photos taken in or before 1995 where a funnel is visible at the north end of building 19 in our building map, with a flame coming out of it. A reliable source told me that the flame was burning almost all the time back then. This could be some kind of vent for an underground fuel storage, I suppose.
