I'll guess something like water drained onto the ground. I brought the elevation up to about 50 feet, and tilted the horizon down about halfway. If you then dial the North direction 180 degrees South (so N points down the page) you'll see the elevation in the gravel piles, and the dark spot looks like its on a small slope. Just a thought. .... Gotta love Google Earth!
