Makes a lot of sense to me, Paul. Being one of the eye witnesses I am absolutely certain that what we saw was NOT an F-117, although it was very similar in design.
While on Tikaboo last weekend I observed a plane taxiing into one of the Red Hat Hangars, H-5, the northeastern one of the group of four hangars at the north end of the base, that were used for Russian hardware. I believe I was able to get a picture of it with my C-5 scope about halfway inside the hangar. It will be up on the DLR site as soon as I get my photos developed.
I was busy switching from visual back to the T-adapter, and did not get a very good look at it through the viewfinder of my Nikon, but it looked similar in size and shape to an F-15 or Mig 29.
A couple hours later we saw a couple of F-16's and a larger plane fly overhead. Not sure if it was the same one, but I got a couple of good shots of it.
