Their are two good view spots for recovery. The best is along Las Vegas Blvd. in front of the Las Vegas Speedway. My favorite is a spot between gates one and two. The fighters will be over your head and usually do a right break over the Speedway and be in front of you till touchdown, The heavys will do a straight in approach over Apex (a small mountain to your left as you face the runway). If their is an exercise going on when you see the AWACS land thats usually the end of the action. On occasion due to the winds the recovery will be over Cheyenne. Cheyenne makes a big right hand turn by the golf course and thats where you want to be. As you face the golf course the aircraft will be over your head. If you have a scanner its will tell you which runway they are using. If you hear 2-1 be at the Speedway. As an aside I was there two weeks ago and the temps were pushing 110 degrees. Their is no shade so its a help to have a pretty good supply of liquid refreshment.
Hope this helps
