I know a MiG-21 pilot who had to use the Hook once. There was also an incident with the second A-12 (Article 122) where an aborted takeoff resulted in the airplane ending up west of the overrun. That's a bad place to be because the lakebed is softer there. It was only to be used in dire emergency. Article 122 recieved substantial damage to the landing gear.
