The town of Rachel, NV was named after Rachel Jones, the first child born there, in 1977. Originally the town's founder, DC Day, called it Tempiute Village, after the nearby Tempiute Mountain. Sometimes the town was also called Sand Springs, because it is located in Sand Spring Valley. These two names are still used on some current maps. For more information, see the attached link to our Rachel, NV home page, and select "History" in the navigation bar on the left.
