TACIT BLUE was to the B-2 what HAVE BLUE was to the F-117A. It was a technology demonstrator used to develop things for use in the follow-on operational aircraft. It's hard to believe, but the boxy looking TACIT BLUE incorporates the same low observable ("stealth")philosophy used in the B-2.

The late Northrop test pilot Dick Thomas, a good friend of mine, flew most of the TACIT BLUE flights. He also spent many hours in the B-2 simulator developing techniques that were eventually used by the B-2 pilots. So, in a sense, he got to "fly" the B-2 before it made its first flight.
