The hill that came to be known as Freedom Rdige was thought to be inside the border. This can be blamed, in part, on the fact that the Air Force placed a Restricted Area sign some distance outside the boundary line.

As a consequence, Whitesides was the first viewpoint discovered. I remember seeing a photo from Whitesides in a book by Jim Goodall. He didn't identify the hill, but I figured it out from the angle of view.

I then figured out that Tikaboo Peak would be a viable viewpoint, as well. At my first opportunity, I climbed Tikaboo and then Whitesides. Glenn Campbell eventually found Freedom Ridge and that became the primary viewpoint until the land was seized in 1995,
