I don't like camping near the ET Highway. Too much traffic. No, really. ;-) At the mailbox, you will get yahoos showing up at weird hours. I've watched this from the powerlines. I've also hit these visitors with my photon beam to give them a light show that they can (I hope) tell the folks back home.

There is an obvious campsite along Groom Lake Road on the right hand side as you head towards the base. It is before the final parking area. That spot might work out.

I think it is
N37 22 0.30 W115 33 44.29
on Google Earth. I'm amazed the turn off has a name, but it is Kuthcen Road.

I prefer to have a little altitude, so I generally camp east of the ET Highway. This way you can watch the ahem "action."

One often overlooked spot to camp is along the Tempiute Road. I think the turn off is
N37 34 13.18 W115 39 47.79
There is a turn off that leads to a plane crash. The road up to the turn off is paved.
