If memory serves me well, NORAD was originally located at the USAF's smallest base; Ent AFB. This was close to Peterson but closer to downtown Colorado Springs and only about 3 blocks by 6 blocks(city)big. I remember you could just about throw a baseball from one gate to the other on the other side of the base. NORAD was in a 3 story concrete block building with few windows surrounded by lots of barbed wire. This was 1958~60.
