All those little towns along route 95 are speed traps. Try driving them with a California license plate. I have been followed by police vehicles in Goldfield, probably the worse speed trap. The police pace you, so a radar detector won't help.

Note that driving too slowly is an excuse to get pulled over. The claim is drunks drive slowly, so they want to check you out. In Tonopah, 24mph in a 25mph zone is too slow.

The bats bug me a little, and for absolutely no good reason, I feel protected if I put on a hat. [An odd thing to wear at night.] I suppose a kevlar hat would do the trick, but not a BDU.
