It was my understanding that CBS and other networks initially reported that EgyptAir Flight 990 had made an unscheduled landing at Edwards AFB after taking off from LAX on the way to JFK. However, CBS and other networks apparently retracted their initial reports that the plane had landed at Edwards. They reported that it was misinformation.
The only thing that I clearly remember was that L.A. Times did report that the 33 Egyptian officers were in the U.S. in training with military helicopters such as Apache and had attended meetings with U.S. defense contractors.
Anything else has no basis for confirmation that I know of.
