That photo shows the M-21 (serial no. 60-6940/Article 134) with a dorsally mounted D-21 (Article 501) parked on the North Ramp at Area 51. Hangar 6 is visible at left and the northern end of the Papoose Range is in the background. The mated combination, called M/D-21 was being readied for its first flight on 22 December 1964. Final preparations took place on the ramp. The orbits of Soviet satellites and the coverage times were well known and taken into account.
