I saw a photo of Mike's car, upside down laying on or next to at least three other cars down in that ravine. They're all down there for a reason, curve or no curve.
I grew up running around in those canyons, learned to drive on the roads that wind through them and I know how dangerous it really is. The edge is always just a few feet away and it's so easy to make a mistake.
