If anyone can get a recording of the sound, I'm a bit of an audio engineer and could do some spectral analysis etc. to try to see what we're dealing with. Of course, it needs to be a fairly good recording (a cell phone mic or anything cheap won't do me much good. Just fire off an email if you manage to get a recording
