Back in my airline days shortly after 9/11 there was talk of fitting airliners with a minimal anti-missle defense. Apparently El Al has such. Maybe they are testing something of that nature. Anyone interested look up STARS and SIDS for why the airplanes don't go direct on approach and takeoff.
