I first visited the SR-71A (61-7952) crash site in May 2001. That was part of an expedition throught the southwestern U.S., during which we visited crash sites of four Blackbirds (952, 965, 966, and 970). I thought about including 953 (too far out of the way) and 936 (we drove past it), but didn't have time.

The 952 site was worth it for the scenery and the historic ghost town of Albert, located on the ranch property. We camped overnight below the cliffs about a mile from Albert. Spectacular!
