No, Tim, there is no chance that "Area 51" is a distraction or cover for something else. It is a very active test site for classified projects under the direction of Detachment 3 of the Air Force Flight Test Center. Over the last decade, it has experienced unprecendented growth in terms of facilities and personnel. It is, in fact, a wing-level organization with several groups and numerous squadrons and flights.

As to Area 52, that is Tonopah Test Range. TTR is another active and interesting facility. It is the site of weapons evaluation, electronic warfare testing, and the 30th Reconnaissance Squadron.
