During one of the flags, I went up north a bit to see the missile batteries. I ran into some guy who was camping in the desert er um apparently for a very long time. The law would hassle him on occasion, but what he did was to save receipts from his visits in town (Alamo, Caliente, etc.) He said he would show the sheriff or ranger (I forget) the receipts, and then they had to stop bugging him. That is, if you were in Alamo 5 days ago, clearly you haven't been camped at that spot for more than 14 days.
