Clearly, any reference to the number "51" in connection with the base at Groom Lake prior to the release date of the movie, July 17, 1959, would refute this idea. Peter Merlin's timeline refers to the use of the name "Project 51" in November 1959. What may also tend to refute this idea is the existence of plutonium dispersal tests at the NTS from 1955 to 1958, named Projects 56, 57, 58 and 58A and the fact that the base became part of the NTS in 1958, at which point it likely would have been given an area number.
