There is a neat 5 page article in the Oct. 31 issue of Aviation Week on Red Flag.
In regards to the post on sites in the area they state in the article that simulated roads and waterways are painted on the desert floor. I assume they are in the training areas of the range. There may or may not be any such sites near the base.
There is also mention of the "big donut hole where Groom Lake is" and that since airspace constraints exist in combat zones, the restricted area contributes to the training objectives. Nice to see our favorite area gets a mention.
Good article, in AW&ST style, giving an insite to what goes on operations wise during a RF exercise.
