Looking at the pond at the north end of the lakebed again, I noticed a couple of things. There is a cattle guard in the road, about 1/4 mile SE of the pond. It appears there is a fence coming fron the SE, then crossing the road perpendicular at the cattle guard, and continuing NW past the north side of the pond. The vegetation north of the fence appears slightly less dense, which leads me to believe that the fence keeps cattle from moving further south and west (which would make sense to keep them off the base area. The pond seems to be accessed from the south, from "inside" the fence. So it does not appear to be a cattle water hole. But it does seem to have something to do with the fence and the cattle guard. Any thoughts?
