Unfortunately camera shake is usually very much an issue. You are quite exposed to the wind on top of the highest peak around. Plus the 26 miles distance, of course. You definitely want a setup that is fast enough to avoid that problem.

I use a sturdy tripod, and a C-5 scope. Chuck uses sandbags instead, on which he rests the scope. Easier to carry, but I feel the tripod with a geared head makes it easier to put together a panorama.

Focusing can also be a problem. On my recent hike I took about a dozen panoramas. Between each I re-focused. Only two came out perfectly in focus.
