You all might want to look for something like this, see link, on your trips to A51, a supersonic, hypersonsonic attack aircraft (shaaft). A paper was present to the joint chiefs in June 1996 titled A Hypersonic Attack Platform, The S3 Concept. Obviously it is assumed there is a need.
