Given the political coup the US pulled off in going to the moon, you can bet the USSR (Russia back then for you kids) tracked the Apollo program with radar like a cop tracking a red corvette. If something was not khosher, the USSR would of been the first to point it out. Remember they were first in every other space milestone other than going to the moon.

BTW, the energy derived from a Moon Pie is nearly as good as rocket fuel.
