It sounds like you were at the site of our Area 51 Anniversary Campout, the night after most people left. Freedom Ridge is about a mile south of there. The bright lights were most likely the cammos. There are many reports of people camping in that area where the cammos "visited" at night to check out the camp site. The red light may have been the marker on the top of the antenna pole by the guard shack. Depending on where you camped in that area it may be just barely visible in the direction you described. BTW: They don't seem to have power line to the Guard Shack. A few years ago when I camped on Hawkeye Hill we could hear the faint hum of a generator all night from the guard shack. We saw the cammos driving around pretty much all night then.
