It would help if you just saved an image of the path and uploaded it. I really don't follow your argument. The base is 50 years old and you see a well travelled path. Well, that would be the case if the base is 50 years old. However, the converse is true. You could have a 50 year old path that doesn't get used and it would still show up. Those plane crash roads were probably only used for a month or two, but still survive years later.

Note that the desert "does not heal." The environment is quite sensitive, so if plant life is destroyed, very little new growth returns. There are spots in Death Valley where the wheel tracks from the wagon trains are still preserved.
