Meteors have trails themselves, so they wouldn't show up as a series of dots. A meteor probably wouldn't be a point source like a star, though maybe a distance meteor would look like a traveling point. I've only done this kind of photography on film, so I don't know about digital artifacts.

I'm guessing something flew through the frame that has a flashing light on it. It flies in a straight line and leaves multiple dots along that line. I have had that effect on regular film cameras doing time exposures.
