The operating location at Groom Lake (formerly known as Area 51) served as a testing ground for:

Aircraft (prototypes, modified testbeds & technology demonstrators)

Foreign materiel (airplanes, radar, weapons, etc.)

Avionics (offensive & defensive systems)

Weapons (missiles, bombs, etc.)

Low Observables (RCS measurement & verification)

The facility inclues a Weapons Test Range (WTR) complex, west of the main base on the other side of the Papoose Mountains.
