It may have been a check ride or one or both pilots. For me a touch & go is an approach-touchdown-power up-rotate-climb out without stopping and taxi back to the active. For the airliner drivers its the same but its also practiced as a ground collision avoidence proceedure. Nice to have lots of runway, Groom has plenty of that.
