There are signs prohibiting photography. But in reality everyone takes pictures there, and I have not heard of anyone getting in trouble for taking photos since the mid 90's. In fact I have taken several TV crews out there for Area 51 documentaries. As long as you don't cross the line you are ok. For more info see our Groom Lake Road article (attached link).
