Area 51 is most definitely still active. However, there are supposedly some very interesting things going on in Utah. A friend of my family who has done a lot of work on Air Force black projects is soon to be transferred up to Hill AFB. He's a civilian, and he mainly does avionics work. He's always been very tight-lipped about the stuff he does, and when I asked him what he'll be working on at Hill, he just smiled and said "Hill's where I'll be stationed, but that's all I can tell you."

I think it could be very possible that perhaps some of the more easily-observed projects (like large aircraft) have been moved to a location that isn't so well known to the public and their prying eyes (like middle-of-nowhere Utah), and therefore could be test flown more often than on moonless nights.

But still, Groom Lake is certainly open for business, and business is still good.
