I agree with the big stick. The only time you would need anything more is for mountain lion or the two legged critters. I have seen mountain lion prints in the snow on Tempuite. There have been recent attacks, some fatal, involving humans and mountain lions in areas out west. If a stick (or tire iron) didn't work a warning shot would scare off any cat.
Criminals are everywhere. Law enforcement isn't. When I travel to Rachel I am alone or with my wife. I take responsibilty for my self-defence. I obide by state law and my common sense.
A tire iron and a .357 weigh about the same.
