You have a valid argument there. I looked at the photo, and ran it through photoshop. At first I thought it was 2 seperate pictures. 1 with the plane and the desert, and one with the fire. But, zoomed in the pixels are merged together, not showing any signs of "photo shopping". As far as the shadows, that could be a number of things in the desert. As you said, the time. But also-heat, type of camera used, distance away from subject. If you zoom in on the plane and go all the way down to the ground, you can see a "Miragish" looking ripple effect. That is caused by the heat from the flame, possibly also any used expellent fuel particles from the plane as well. Looks genuine to me, as is the rest of the site.
