garmin rebates

Garmin just started rebates on their color screen GPSs.

BTW, I've seen the new Magellan Explorists. They have reduced the size to the point where it is no longer clunky compared to the Garmin Etrex models. Somebody had posted in the forum a while back that the Magellan topo database is 20ft contours, but I had talked to someone at Thales and it turned out that the maps used an interpolated contour. The newer map database is like Garmins (50ft), so there isn't that much advantage in respect tp the Magellan maps. Some of the Magellan GPSs take SD memory cards, which is a big advantage. Some of the Explorists use a lithium ion battery, which is sort of a distadvantage since I like to be able to use AA cells. When I saw the prototype for the Explorist 600, I was told the lithium ion batteries were not going to be marked up like they do for cell phones. I can't see owning such a GPS without a spare battery.
