I used to work for an airline that flew high-winged turboprops (FH-227's) for local service. The beacon often caused unusual effects -- usually passengers reporting that the engines were on fire when the beacon reflected off the props. It made both a high pitched scream from the small inlets as well as the lower sounds from the jet exhaust and the props themselves. It probably wasn't one of these but maybe something similar? Another possibility is a C-17. They look and sound a little weird. Are they common there?
