The atoll wasn't bombed (recently), the flight vehicles were probably sent into the lagoon for recovery, so they could be studied, probably for how well their "thermal" protection worked. Kwajelein is a site where weapons are launched from, they don't "blow stuff up" there, at least anymore. It's a huge military testing complex.
