The only problem I see with the drag chute would be the distance covered from the time of the terminate signal until landing. You want to be really really sure where this thing lands. If you do the vertical climb when the terminate signal is given, the horizontal distance covered would be less. Of course, you do need some vertical clearance. ;-)
