For anyone interested, you can find several sites with pictures of fata morgana by searching for "fata morgana" and "mcmurdo". McMurdo Sound is the principal U.S. base in Antarctica. They are using C-17's now rather than the C-130's that were there in my day (late 1980's). Weather there can be pretty bizarre and may be the answer to many UFO sightings due to the rarity of these events in the more moderate climates of the world.
