One could also argue that given Vladimir Putin's very "old school" bent, the elimination of democratic elections for provincial governors, his openly "Pan-Soviet" rhetoric regarding the Ukraine, and the general political climate that has proliferated in Russian government over the past few years, they could emerge as a threat again as well, especially if Mr. Putin does in fact invade the Ukraine...

Again, all off-topic, but some old ghosts have come up alongside the countries with which the U.S. has political conflicts, and some (like China and North Korea) are openly hostile to the US, while one-time enimies, and then allies (Egypt, Russia) are beginning to talk about the "good old days" again...

And I hope that the goodies that will be tested out thanks to our taxpayer dollars over the next few years take these new political elements into account. Much like our own nation, the world seems to have entered a climate of political polarization again, and...

Well, I sure hope that that they're not fiddling around in the desert.
