Another aspect of the base that I think inspires a large chunk of the people who visit this site is the basic spirit behind what they do out there. The hard working aerospace people behind these operations are the guys that build and test the coolest machines in the world (in my opinion),push current technologies to the limit, and embody the pre-cold war/cold war spirit of "bigger,better,faster". Every test flight they do brings us one step closer to the stars in one way or another. Well, that and the mystery of the base doesnt hurt either.
