George,
An Air Force Brat and then breifly in the Air Force myself I heard 'Murmurs' about "The Base that doesn't exist" so have always wondered about it. Once I had seen a U2 and then YF12A at my Brothers USAFA Graduation Fly-By in 1966 I became in awe of the people who made these craft possible. If nothing else, Area 51 should be a monument to what is possible when mankind puts it's total energy into creating the almost unthinkable.
I often travel to Vegas on business and the casinos and other attractions lost their glitter years ago for me so a side trip up to Rachel seemed like a good idea.....AND IT WAS!!!! With the help of this site (Thanks again Joerg!) I had a wonderful time. As Jolene says you must go there to understand the sheer awesomness of the scenery and the feeling of being so close to a place where things happened that changed history.....Every been to Gettysburg? Could you explain it? Verdun,FR and seen the tomb of the unknowns where thousands of human bones are all piled up inside a huge monument and can be veiwed thru small windows? you can't really discribe some things and the impact they have on one's psyche.
Some things must be experianced to be understood.
