The GPS comes in pretty handy at night. You often just blow past where you were trying to go due to the lack of visual clues. I think off-roading at night would be pretty difficult without a GPS, though I do the Power Line Overlook at night without a GPS because I've done the trip so many times.

I really can't see hiking without a GPS, especially on a new trail.
