Do some reading on the site here and you'll see that operations have not ceased, the base continues to expand for new programs. Security is also very high, which suggests they test many things there that the public is not supposed to see. It has and will continue to be the premier black ops facility for emerging technologies, both new aircraft and refinments for older ones. There's no Area 52 as far as i know of.
