I was recruited by Sandia for a job at their Berkeley office. They made "fuses" for nuclear weapons. In the military, the word "fuse" encompasses everything involved in trigger the bomb, including interlocks to prevent false triggering. I wouldn't consider that job to be in physics, rather just basic electronics engineering. It's the kind of job where you already had the background check before they approach you if you know what I mean. This is nearly 30 years ago, so today things are certainly different. That is, regarding Sandia. "Fuse" design I'm sure is a big part of the DOD .
